Sound Magic has introduced CineGrand2,  a lightweight virtual instrument (700MB) that promises to deliver “a level of detail comparable to massive 54GB sample libraries.”

Here’s what they have to say about it:

“CineGrand2 is a combination of two great grands that meet the needs of working composers in today’s film, television, and video game industries. They were handpicked featuring a charming mellow sound, with a smooth dynamic transition from ppp to ff.”

CineGrand2 offers full feature support for the MIDI 2.0 standard. In CineGrand2, polyphonic aftertouch is used to determine the style of playing piano. CineGrand2 also supports high resolution pedal messages based on MIDI 2.0, which makes the pedaling experience smoother.

Other key features:

• EZ Gesture leverages MIDI 2.0’s high-resolution controller messages to track user’s hand movement, recognize specific gestures, which can be mapped to switch modes, change presets and banks, or control internal plugin parameters—all with intuitive movement.
• Freeform Layer is a new technology which not only uses the high-resolution velocities of MIDI 2.0, but also not limited to velocity layer. In traditional velocity layer, a layer must assign to a specific velocity value. Freeform layers break this limit, and it can be assigned to whole velocity range and can mix with other layers and also use filter to process it. This gives the sound much more possibilities. The overall result is like a combination effect of multi velocity layers and round robin samples. You will get a unique sound every time you touch the piano.
• CineGrand 2 is lightweight by design, allowing all data to be loaded entirely into RAM. This results in faster response times compared to large sample libraries.
• CineGrand2 can support Surround and Immersive Audio.
