Plaits Palette is a free, browser-based tool that lets you easily create your own custom firmware for the Mutable Instruments Plaits.
The Mutable Instruments Plaits, originally introduced in 2018 for Eurorack systems, is a digital macro-oscillator module that features multiple synthesis models, including virtual analog, wavetable, percussion, speech. Since then, it has become one of the most popular synth module designs ever created, with its DNA being incorporated into clones, software versions and new synth designs.
Rubato Audio’s Plaits Palette lets you select synthesis models from a large library and load them into the slots of your choosing, with up to 4 banks on the module. You can also customize chord tables, speech models, DX7 patches, and many other functions.
In the video above, Jimmy Cuadra (Perceptes) shares an overview and demo of how to use Plaits Palette to customize your module.
Here’s another overview, via The Unperson, that focuses on how this can expand the Plaits’ sonic options:
TL;DW also includes ports of Braids DSP with model extensions for the added Harmonics control. plus some new synthesis Rubato models, and some community contributions. all in all, a great update for the Plaits platform and codebase. NICE!
It’s kind of incredible to see how many things have grown out of MI’s Plaits module.
I’m looking forward to checking this out. It looks like the developer also plans to let others contribute new models via the web editor.
Just a note because people don’t seem to know, but this was built using AI.
How do you know? Why should we care?
you shouldn’t for utilities like this. tha author stated it on https://llllllll.co/t/plaits-palette/75068
It’s very clear. It means usually poor quality and low support.
Y & Sam – the tool is awesome.
Do you guys know what the hell you’re talking about? It seems like you’re both just whining about somebody doing something cool and sharing it for free.
Will it work on Plaits clones?
only Behringer Brains can’t be updated AFAIK. any other real clone should be fine – all the same hardware.
