In his latest loopop video, host Ziv Eliraz reviews the Haken Slim 21 Continuum, a smaller and more affordable version of what some consider the most expressive and powerful synthesizer ever made.
The Slim 21 Continuum offers the full engine and capabilities of Haken’s flagship Continuum expressive instrument, but with a smaller 21-note range. It’s based on the EaganMatrix Sound Engine, which has been designed specifically to deliver an expressiveness and immediacy that rivals traditional acoustic instruments.
The Continuum tracks each finger individually with microscopic accuracy, using up to 12 independent Hall-Effect sensors per finger. The analog output of each sensor is digitized by ultra-high speed A/D converters. A typical note played on the Continuum will have data from hundreds of thousands of Hall-Effect samples, allowing for exponentially more accuracy and sensitivity than traditional keyboards.
Pricing and Availability:
The Haken Audio Slim 21 is available now for $1,799 USD.

Highly expensive for a 2 octave keyboard
True but it’s not a regular 2 octave keyboard, and it’s not just a keyboard,
and it’s not 2 octaves. 🙂
It costs about 1/3 of their lowest priced one so I’d say this is a good development.
It’s the cheapest electronic instrument that can do what it does.
That’s why it’s becoming a ‘go to’ instrument for soundtrack composers. Nothing else comes close.
I still think, though, that if they paired the Continuum with an analog engine with a knobby interface, they’d double their sales. EaganMatrix is too advanced for most synthesists, unfortunately.
I agree and tbh it doesn’t make any sense. The sl46 I get but this one is too small to do any of the things the continuum is good at.
I’d love to have one if I had the money 🙂

I feel like with how much these cost, what is it to just spend more to get all the octaves you need? Would love to get one someday but not attainable right now.
