Developer Igor Vasiliev has released HollowTone – Deep Ambient Worlds, a software instrument designed for creating atmospheric sound, rather than conventional melodies or rhythms.
Instead of playing back samples or loops, it generates layered sounds procedurally in real time, allowing musicians to shape evolving environments ranging from fog-like textures and cavernous resonances to digital glitches and distant, voice-like tones.
Features:
- HollowTone combines multiple procedural sound layers that can be blended to create complex, evolving environments. The generated textures can be used as standalone soundscapes or as source material for ambient compositions, drones, cinematic cues, and experimental electronic music.
- Nine macro parameters provide broad control over the resulting sound. Rather than requiring users to construct a detailed synthesis patch, these controls let them reshape the overall atmosphere through relatively simple adjustments.
- A built-in randomizer generates new sound configurations, offering a way to explore variations and discover unexpected textures. Musicians can use it to find starting points for compositions, create changing background layers, or develop sounds for scenes that require tension, mystery, or a sense of space.
- The app is suited to sound design for science-fiction and dark-fantasy projects, subtle horror cues, game environments, video soundtracks, meditation, and other applications where evolving ambience is more important than a conventional musical arrangement.
- HollowTone can run as a standalone instrument on iPhone and iPad, or operate as an Audio Unit or Inter-App Audio module in compatible iOS music workflows. Audiobus and Ableton Link support allow it to integrate with other applications and synchronized setups.
- On macOS, HollowTone runs as a standalone application or as an AUv3 instrument inside compatible digital audio workstations and plugin hosts. This allows producers to incorporate its generated soundscapes into larger arrangements alongside synthesizers, samplers, and other processing tools.
Pricing & Availability:
HollowTone is available for iPhone and iPad running iOS 16 or later and for Apple Silicon Macs with macOS 13 or later. The US App Store price is $9.99. It operates as a standalone application and supports AUv3 integration, with additional iOS workflow support for Audiobus, Ableton Link, and Inter-App Audio.
Great textures 🙂 I will try it
