In this video, synthesist Starsky Carr compares the new Behringer BM-14M to the device it copies, the Moog MF104M Analog Delay Effect Pedal.
The Behringer knockoff is not an exact clone, so you can hear some audio differences, which Carr covers in the video. You can especially hear the differences when Carr tests infinite feedback.
“Does the Behringer sound like the Moogerfooger?” Carr asks. “No it doesn’t’.”

The Moog does sound a notably better. With the Behringer copy, I’m not hearing anything that sounds notably better than my Synth Tech delay, which is a digital emulation of a BBD.
These Behringer copies seem like they are for posers – people that want to pretend they’ve got a vintage Moogerfooger, but don’t want to save up for the real thing – more than people that want a specific sound. Or maybe they’re for people that can’t hear the difference and think it’s all BS!
When I was a kid and Transformers were new, I saw cheapo knockoffs that disintegrated when you breathed on them. Having 10 of those never matched having a ‘real’ one that held up for a while. B is the knockoff “Transformer” that turns itself into e-waste the second time you turn a wheel or open the wings.

I think Borio has it right! 😛 I’m sure there will be interest when they get around to their BS-80 or Bupiter-8.2, but overall, Behringer Fatigue has set in for me. I don’t care enough to get outraged. I have too many great tools.
Maybe we’re all too busy making music to care, or bummed out by staring at (motions to everything).
