Sequential and GForce Software have introduced the first official Prophet~5 virtual instrument, a software synth that they say recreates the “sound, feel and character of the original”.
The new Prophet-5 plugin recreates the Rev1, Rev2, and Rev3 versions of the original instrument, including their respective SSM and Curtis filter and envelope characteristics.
The software retains the original Prophet-5 architecture, while extending it with dual-layer operation, expanded modulation capabilities, integrated effects, MPE support, and modern preset management tools.

I have basically all the vintage emulations from GForce, Arturia, Uhe and Cherry Audio – they are very nice, glad to have them. However, it is crazy that almost no one knows that a much better emulation of the Prophet 5 was released last year by newere player, Acustica Audio, with Expanse 5. It sounds significantly better than this Gforce release in my side by side comparisons. I have also compared them both to my hardware P10, and only the Acustica captures the sonic 3-dimensional magic texture in the hardware. Try it yourself.
Same goes for the Jupiter 8, the Acustica emulation is absolutely outstanding and sounds so good. Heavy on CPU, but the sound at 96kHz is unbelievable! A shame nobody talks about those

I’ve demo’d several each of Oberheims, Rolands, etc. I say pick the GUI you like best and roll with it. You’d have to be a dolphin to hear the delicate differences. Casual miracles are so boring! 😛

Guess I have dolphin ears, lol the differences are shocking to me, to the point sometimes when I make a sound in Arturia it’s only in the same generic ballpark as the synth not even close, like legit different sounds not nuisances, I thought I’d use the Arturia plugin and write a full song with tons of tracks so they all gelled well together then go through one by one match the settings with the hardware to replace it, didn’t work, sounds were too different, as for the p6, great synth, stereo distortion is great, doesn’t sound like a p5, osc sound pretty different, allot more functionality on a p6, can do more things for sure, but the raw tone on the p5 has more grit, like a mid range presence I really like. Still I’d take a real p6 over a p5 plugin any day,
I just wish they made this plugin as n editor for the hardware as well, looks so much nicer than the sound tower stuff.
i think a lot of folks, on top of hearing damage they may have, must also not have speakers/headphones/volumes capable of hearing the differences between things yup. The difference between the real electric feel of a synth right into good equipment is still miles beyond software.

PRO-A5 from Audiokit for iPad.
I miss Pro-53. Was it the most realistic-sounding Prophet Five? No, it was not. However, it had a crunchy, aggressive texture that I really liked.
I loved the pro-52 and then the pro-53 and I held a grudge against native instruments when it wasn’t made compatible with newer systems. I’m mostly over it now. That was such an awesome synth.

I have the 8M. It’s definiately THE most used synth in my studio.

Yluko; Heh, about dolphin ears…. good point! I’m lucky to have laid hands to a lot of gear (both owned or merely demoed), so I guess I’ve become less exacting about it. When I crank up my software Memorymoog, the bass bin pulses the same way it did when I had a hardware Mini.
If I had to recommend just one, it would be G-Force’s new collab with Sequential. That’s as close to perfect as anyone probably needs. Everyone should own a Prophet of some kind at least once.
