The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo hype has got us pretty tweaked out at Synthtopia, especially the promise of the synth-heavy Trent Reznor + Atticus Ross soundtrack.
Here’s sneak preview of the score – a cover of Led Zeppelin’s Immigrant Song, featuring Yeah Yeah Yeah’s vocalist Karen O.
“A-a-aaaaaaaaaaaa-ah!”
If that floats your boat, you can get a 6 track mini-jumbo sampler from the soundtrack from Reznor and Ross for the cost of an email address.
I loved the social network ost and reznor’s work in general, and I am sorry but it really doesn’t appeal to me, can’t imagine listen to this. Tries to be noisy but it’s too clean and the production is too much, like a michael bay movie treatment to a Led zep song…
I’ve always thought Karen O sounded Like the love child of Chrissie Hynde(Grace Jones’ cover of “Private Life” is the best cover ever) and Gene Wilder… Essentialy the voice of Chrissie and the volatility of Gene. But I don’t really enjoy The pretenders’ music or Wilder’s zany acting so it’s only natural that I did not enjoy this either. I’m not really a led zeppelin fan either but this was boring compared to the original.
Every time I see the trailer in the movie theatre, I get goose bumps. Guess it’s a combination of the pumping Led Zeppelin song, dramatic/mysterious footage and the sheer excitement of the movie getting out soon. As a Led Zeppelin fan, I’m always protective regarding cover versions, but this one nails it. Can’t wait to see the movie!
Can’t decide what’s worse, Karen 0’s grating “edgy” tuneless shriek or the circa ’99 nü-metal production? Cheesy and pandering in the worst of possible ways. Three big thumbs down.
Pretty mainstream and predictable Reznor fare, but with Karen O vocals (a nice change) – but it works for me, and I can imagine it being used in the film. I’ll be interested to hear the other tracks though.
Reznor is a pretentious, boring old fart, but Karen O is everything he is not. For true post-Zep heavitude check out Diamanda Galas & John Paul Jones “The Sporting Life”, a 1994 Mute Records LP. Like Led Zep in Byzantine hell.
I liked it… But then again, I’m a 90s industrial rock fan…mso yeah…
Atticus Ross is chopped liver?
