MeeBlip anode 2.0 Adds Wavetable Mode

meeblip-anodeMeeBlip anode co-developer Peter Kirn (with James Grahame) let us know that the firmware for the tiny hybrid synth has been updated to version 2 – adding wavetable support – and also that it is on sale for Black Friday.

“anode now ships with 2.0 firmware, which includes a special wavetable mode,” says Kirn. “With 16 new wavetables, tap into rough-and-raw 16-bit single-cycle waveforms like blended sawtooth, granular, and FM, plus glitchy bit-reduced and distorted sounds for a whole new variety of sounds.”

The MeeBlip anode is an open hardware hybrid synth that features digital oscillators and an analog filter.

The MeeBlip anode Wavetable Mode

The new wavetable mode is available as an option when you turn on the anode. To get at them, hold down the MIDI Select button on the back of the unit as you power it on. Then, instead of having the usual width and sweep controls for a rectangle wave, you can turn the Width knob to select from 8 different waves, each with its own timbre. To access the second bank, use the Sweep switch to switch from Bank 1 to Bank 2.

These are the waves in each wavetable:

  • Wave Bank 1: Sawtooth, blended sawtooth, FM 1, distorted 1, granular 1, voice 1, voice 2
  • Wave Bank 2: Bit reduced 1, bit reduced 2, bit reduced 3, distorted 2, distorted 3, FM 2, FM 3, more granular.

Here is the official audio demo of the new wavetable mode:

Version 2 of the firmware is available via GitHub.

There is also a Black Friday sale on the MeeBlip anode. North American customers can now get anode for US $119.95 instead of the usual $139.95, including a power adapter, through Dec 1.

  1. Great idea for an update. The singular sound is good, but this definitely will expand its usability.

I’m curious, how do you switch to wavetable mode? Which knobs or switches are used for wave selection? And/or can you use midi program or control change?

    1. Wavetable mode is activated by holding the MIDI SET switch on the back panel for a moment when you turn the synth on. The Pulse Sweep switch selects wave bank A or B, and the Pulse Width knob selects one of 8 waves in each bank. Both controls respond to MIDI CC.
