Renegade Soundplay announces High Score. High Score is a virtual instrument plugin that recreates the sounds and music of video games and computers from the 1980s.
High Score runs on Mac and Windows, and works both as a stand-alone or as a plugin in all major music Digital Audio Workstation software packages.
High Score features three wave generators that utilize sampled waveforms from various game consoles and computers from the 1980s. A separate sweepable, variable-bit rate noise generator allows the user to pinpoint just the right amount of “vintage” sound quality. High Score also features a multi-mode filter, dual-pattern step arpeggiator, note delay, and speaker simulator.
One key feature of High Score is the Randomizer. The Randomizer creates new sounds based on the user selecting from one of ten categories (including bass, lead, jump, power up, laser, and others) and a sound of that type is generated. This enables producers and sound designers to quickly create new 8-bit sounds.
High Score also features sampled speech sounds. There are multiple banks of speech words mapped across the keyboard that are ready to use and like all the other waveforms, can be modified via the High Score sound engine.
High Score includes 300 snapshot ready-to-use presets featuring 8-bit sounds of various types. Additional snapshot presets and new features will be added to High Score with future updates.
Renegade Soundplay has partnered with Native Instruments to make High Score available for the free Kontakt 6 Player. High Score is also NKS compatible with the Native Instruments S-Series keyboards and Maschine. As part of this partnership, all High Score downloads and installation will be performed via Native Instruments’ Native Access application.
Renegade Soundplay launches a crowdfunding campaign today (September 8). During the 30-day Kickstarter campaign, backers will be able to pre-order High Score for a discounted price.
Developers expect High Score to be available for first customer downloads mid to late October 2020.
