In his latest Sonic Lab review, host Nick Batt takes a look a the new Modal Cobalt8, a new eight-voice virtual analog synthesizer that they say ‘reinvents the aesthetics of analogue sounds’.

The COBALT8 offers up to 8 oscillators per voice, MPE Support, 4-Pole Morphable Ladder Filter with Resonance and four switchable configurations, 3 envelopes & LFO’s per voice, deep modulation options, a polyphonic step sequencer with parameter locking per step, arpeggiator and 3 independent effects engines.

  1. I zoom in on Nick’s reviews, because they’re real candy for aficionados. Pair up his review with one from Sweetwater’s Daniel Fisher and you’ve got a full picture of the instrument at hand. That includes any small operational bumps. Nobody demos better than serious players.

  2. Agreed, and while the loopop stuff is always usefull and detailed in the function dept, it brings nothing in the way of actual music. Plus his apparent obsession to be the first to review a piece of gear is getting a little dizzying…

  3. Heard it
    And bought it instantly !!!

    Picked it up This afternoon
    At Midi Amsterdam

At the Door as corona rules applied

To lucky I can work with it the Holiday season

    It sounds Amazing !!!
It could be the new go to synth for a lot of styles
    And a Nord lead replacer
The Keys are one of the best
Feels like Waldorf / Moog and looks like them as well
    They are playable great !!

And it’s price is ridiculous low for a quality like this
