Ears To The Ground: Adventures in Field Recording and Electronic Music

Ears To The Ground: Adventures in Field Recording and Electronic Music is a new book, by Ben Murphy, that explores how musicians and producers use field recordings and sampling in their music.

Murphy has worked as news editor and editor-in-chief at DJ Magazine. He has been writing about music for over 20 years and has contributed to The Guardian, Crack and Time Out.

Here’s what the publisher has to say about the new book:

“For the biggest artists to the most underground, field recordings have become the vital spark of electronic music. Whether documenting nature, sampling the city or capturing the atmosphere of archaeological sites, musicians are using found sounds to make sense of our world.

Ears To The Ground explores the relationship between electronics, landscape and field recordings in the UK, Ireland and around the globe, discovering how producers and artists evoke the natural world, history and folklore through sampled sounds.”
