Waldorf let us know that they’re planning on making a major introduction on November 27, 2025, Thanksgiving Day in the US.
Detail are still to be officially released, but they’ve scheduled a release event for 9pm CET in Berlin, Germany. The event will start at 8 p.m., one hour before the official product launch, and will be open to Waldorf’s friends and community members, free of charge, and with a complimentary free drink.
The evening will feature a product introduction by Waldorf Music’s developer and CEO Rolf Wöhrmann, and will continue with a performance from Berlin-based artist, Zavoloka.

It is an eight-voice synth based on the MW 1 sound, but can play 4 layers simultaneously.

Waldorf Music has released the Protein, a new 8-voice polyphonic wavetable synthesizer. The instrument combines the technology of earlier Waldorf instruments with modern features in a compact and portable design.
The Protein utilizes the original ASIC oscillators of the Microwave 1, reproducing its characteristic digital vintage sound at a 250 kHz sample rate and retaining the original 8-bit quantization and aliasing characteristics. Its design and architecture are particularly noteworthy. The Protein boasts a new, portable form factor. Measuring 252 x 170 x 48 mm and weighing just 0.9 kg, it is designed for both studio and mobile use.
The user interface is designed for intuitive operation and direct access. At its core, the Protein offers 8 voices and a flexible 4-layer concept that enables complex sound layering, round-robin modes, and polytimbral operation via MIDI. The Load Layer function allows for quick recombination of existing layers from the library. The device stores over 150 factory presets and up to 250 user presets. Each layer has access to an 8-slot modulation matrix for sound design, complemented by modern support for polyphonic aftertouch. A special feature is the “Flavor” control, which adds organic micro-fluctuations to digital sounds.
Modern features from the Iridium family are also integrated, including an arpeggiator, step sequencer, and various effects. The Protein aims to offer an affordable entry into the world of classic Waldorf wavetable synthesis. The official launch of the Protein will take place on November 27, 2025, at 8 p.m. in Berlin. Following the launch, the artist Zavoloka will perform a 30-minute live set using the Protein.
Calling it now, over time, this synth will prove to be the highest volume synth.

Waldorf is a great little company that makes awesome instruments. What are you blithering about?
They’re high or something. I’ve got an Iridium desktop and it’s a fantastic synth. The fact that I scored it for what is now about 40% of retail price is even better.
Really wish there was an addon that could filter these utterly valueless comments, and leave the thoughtful there to be appreciated and think about. You know, just, to not to have to groan at every other thing that runs across my screen, would be a thing of beauty.
Might be one of the few application of LLM on the web that I’d appreciate (especially since it would sort of come full circle with itself, as those models are for a big part based on web content. It should be able to pick out brain-turds like that one left up there with ease! And then to just kill the entire comment thread it inevitably generates.)

Many years ago, I wanted a Waldorf Q. The last Q was the Phoenix edition, which was released nearly 20 years ago. I haven’t kept track of Waldorf products. Are the current Waldorfs essentially souped-up Qs? Anyone here have their Largo 2 VST? If so, how do you like it? Is their Largo 2 like the Q?
