Teenage Engineering has introduced the EP–40 riddim & EP–2350 ting, new portable devices that they describe as “the next reggae classics.”
With riddim and ting, TE says that it’s turned its focus to reggae, dub, dancehall, and sound system culture.
The EP–40 is a powerful sampler, sequencer and beat making tool that’s the next evolution of their EP–133 K.O. II and the EP–1320 medieval. It features a new LOP play mode, with mute/unmute pad functionality, which lets you build a live remix palette of tempo synced loops for quick on-the-fly arrangements.
supertone, riddim’s on-board synth engine comes with a selection of bass- and lead presets with dedicated tweakable parameters, as well as three unique, pressure controlled dub siren sounds. The riddim soundbank offers over 300 original samples, styled for reggae, dub and dancehall.
complementing riddim is the EP–2350 ting, a standalone handheld FX microphone.
ting plugs straight into riddim’s line input or into any sound system, for easily adding vocals and effects to a performance. ting includes a clean voice mode and four effect presets: echo, echo+spring, pixie,
and robot. the effects can be modulated live by either the lever or by motion.
ting also contains four samples, which can be selected and triggered from ting’s side buttons to add classic sound system hits like air horn and laser.

Sweden was a mistake
It’s a shame they had to make it look so “jokey” compared to the KO II which has a much nicer aesthetic to it
The collection of samples seems well curated and fun to use
Fill the empty user slots up with a whole load of old jungle breaks and you have yourself a nice portable ragga jungle beat box
