Free DJ App Mixxx has made its Mac App Store debut, and in less than 48 hours has taken the number one spot.
When the App Store was introduced, we said “The Mac App Store Will Create A New Market For Music Apps“. It’s too early to know if this will pan out, but it certainly seems to have worked out that way for the developers of Mixxx:
In less than 48 hours since we went live, Mixxx has become the #1 Top Free App in the USA, Germany, and Italy. We’re also one of the top 3 Apps in Brazil, Canada, France, Japan, and the UK.
We’re completely overwhelmed by the response – I don’t think anyone saw this coming. We wanted to be in the Mac App Store to reach more users, and now we’re reaching far more than we ever expected!
The Mac App Store addresses two problems faced by indie developers – exposure and trust. With those issues out of the way, it makes sense that a great app like Mixxx has been able to expand its user base dramatically.
We’re interested to see if more developers will follow suit.
Note: Mixxx is just as free on Linux and Windows and demands relatively recent hardware.
