Erica Synths Intros Pico MScale For Moog Mother-32

Erica Synths has introduced the Pico MSCALE – a precision scaler designed to make it easier to incorporate the Moog Mother 32 into Eurorack systems.

Here’s what they have to say about it:

Those, who own Moog Mother 32 know, that it requires -5V – +5V on 1V/oct input to operate in full range, while the Eurorack standard is 0V – +10V. So, to control Moog Mother 32 from a eurorack sequencer you need to bias a sequencer output for 5 volts down. And vice versa – Moog Mother 32 sequencer outputs -5V – +5V on 1V/oct output, and, if you wish to control some eurorack VCO from Moog Mother 32, you need to bias it 5 volts up.

This is exactly what MSCALE does – it has two sections – upper one adds 5V to the input voltage, other subtracts 5V form the input voltage. Of course, the module is not limited for use with Moog Mother 32 only. You can use it as a regular eurorack precision voltage scaler.

Features:

  • Precision scaler to adapt Moog Mother 32 1V/oct to eurorack standard
  • Moog to eurorack section
  • Eurorack to Moog section
  • High precision, high temperature stability
  • Skiff friendly, compact design

Pricing and Availability

The Pico MSCALE is available now for 60EUR + 21% VAT for individual customers in EU without EU VAT registration number + shipping.

  1. I love Erica Synths and their modules – their Varishape is one of my go-to VCOs – but in truth, they’re more of an outlier than Moog. Many Eurorack VCOs are aligned with Moog’s interpretation of voltage ranges with 0v being nominally Middle C, whereas Erica is out on the end of the scale along with Arturia in feeling 4v should be Middle C (here’s a sample of what voltage ranges various VCOs and MIDI/CV converters expect: https://learningmodular.com/matching-octaves-in-your-modular/). So it’s more like this module brings their gear in line with Moog and a large swath of the rest of Eurorack, rather than being Moog in line with the rest of Eurorack.

    1. The MS20 oscillators Hz/V control voltage scaling, while most eurorack oscillators use V/Oct . This linear offset module won’t be the proper interface but you could use the Expert Sleepers Disting module is mode 2a, or the Industrial Music Electronics (formerly the Harvestman) English Tear module.

  2. would this allow me to use an external Guitar fx pedal with the Moog Mother-32 VCO Saw/Square wave out then bring that in as an external audio sauce?
