AudioKit Digital D1 for iOS has been re-written from the ground up to support AUv3.
AUv3 support means that you can use the software synth within your favorite iOS DAWs and hosts, including GarageBand, AUM, Audiobus, BeatMaker 3, Cubasis and NanoStudio 2.
The developers note:
- D1 is ‘rather robust. It’s a beast of a synth’.
- You can run 2, 3 or more instances in one project. Of course, if you go above 3 instances running at once, it may become unstable.
- AUv3 also handles MIDI better. Use your favorite iOS host like AUM to route MIDI to different instances
- AUv3 mode defaults to CPU efficient mode on, which means you don’t see the knob animation on LFOs.
- There’s a new keyboard hide/show icon that appears at the top of the AUv3 mode to make it easier to show/hide bottom panels in AUv3 mode.
Here’s a quick test of using multiple instances of AudioKit Digital D1, via TheAudioDabbler:
Pricing and Availability
AudioKit Digital D1 is available now. It’s a free upgrade for existing users. The update is priced with an intro price of $7.99 for a week (normally $15).
great app.
Agreed very nice sounding. Shame these apps are so cpu intensive though as I can only run one instance of it in BM3 on my Ipad 9.7 (2017 model). 🙁
It might be more of the RAM issue with Apple’s current AUv3 implementation, as with Modley. I can run four instances on my 9.7″ iPad Pro and have the DSP below 60% but adding a fifth instance crashes all of them. With Modley, it’s three instances.

Might be more of an issue with the RAM limits in Apple’s current implementation of AUv3. Same thing with Klevgränd Modley.
On my 1st Generation 9.7″ iPad Pro (2016), I can run four instances of Digital D1 and remain under 60% DSP. Adding a fifth instance crashes all of them. With Modley, I’m limited to three instances (as they explain in their notes).
