Developer Giorgio Sancristoforo has introduced Fantastic Voyage, a new macOS app offers a modern take on the Tascam Portastudio.
Fantastic Voyage is a multi-effect virtual stompbox, looper and 4 (stereo) track recorder. It’s designed to work with external sound, like guitars, microphones and synthesizers. It doesn’t generate sound internally.
The software, like Sancristoforo’s Gleetchlab and Berna, is designed to be modular. With the patch matrix, you can connect the various sections of the software in any way you want. There isn’t a fixed signal path, so the options for signal processing and re-processing are immense.
“The idea of Fantastic Voyage came while thinking at the old Tascam tape Portastudios,” notes Sancristoforo. “In my early experiments in the 90s, I’ve loved the machine. So I’ve decided to create a personal updated version of a portable 4 track recorder, which includes a palette of effects which I think are useful to create ambient and experimental tunes.”
Pricing and Availability
Fantastic Voyage will be available later today. Pricing is TBA.
Fantastic, indeed! A clean interface with modern updates for us old Portastudio fans. Thanks!
Gleetchlab and Berna are great, so I’d say this is looking good. Thanks Giorgio!
Price 14.99€
seems really interesting but I’d love to see more demos…
Just purchased. Super affordable for a unique idea, a very crisp and clean GUI, very accessible manual, and a lovely personal email from Giorgio. Happy to support a product that (according to Giorgio in the manual) was created during the COVID isolation. Giorgio seems to be doing other really interesting design and programming projects judging from his website.
