This series of videos, via biyiblip, introduces the Blippoo Box Legacy – a new version of the unique synthesizer, originally designed by the late Rob Hordijk.
Hordijk (1958-2022) is best known to synthesists as the developer of the Blippoo Box, Benjolin & the Hordijk Modular System.

I’d love to see somebody (maybe SynthCube?) offer modern takes on the Hordijk modular series.
The modules are so rare that they’re priced at unobtanium prices, which means most of us will never have the chance to try them. His modules are viewed very highly, though, so I’d be really interested in getting a chance to try out his designs.
Doing that would be somewhat against Rob’s own philosophy.
He defended that “modules” were not so important as a whole instrument, and that’s why he almost sold only full systems and reflected on the importance of modulations instead of modules.
The most sensible expectation is that Biyi (from BiyiBlip) will develop some new instruments based on some of the circuits in the modular. I have asked him several times and, as of now, he is not willing to develop the modular again.
Knowing Rob personally, I happen to know that he planned to stop the production of the modular himself as it consumed a lot of his time and resources and he had the idea to move onto new formats, such as desktop instruments that would fulfill his “whole instrument” and “patch-in-a-box” philosophies.
So, sadly, the only option for now is to try to apply his philosophy design into existing circuits and forget about exact 1:1 clones or emulations. In that line, I have carefully studied some of his designs and have achieved some interesting results.
OOooo YES!!! I already have one and YES, it’s absolutely amazing! Nothing can compare to this beautiful sound machine! Biyi is a true wizard. He also created the Blippolator, which is a very interesting synth voice with incredible patching possibilities.
The Blippoo Box Legacy was already introduced at the Dutch Modular Fest in Rotterdam – that’s where I bought mine and I’ve been working with it all week. The sounds are addictive and it’s so easy to use, plus you get tons of happy accidents!
Rob Hordijk’s original design was groundbreaking, and Biyi has done an incredible job bringing this legendary instrument back to life. It’s wonderful to see this piece of synthesis history available again for a new generation of musicians to discover.
